NPC friendsMaking friends in Rangers of Oblivion(RoO) is easy, it just takes time. And, just like real life strangers, the best way to increase NPC friendliness is by bringing them food and alcohol(if you bring those two things to almost any party you can get in). The food you make is easiest to obtain and will help your cooking skill.

Alcohol can be bought at any tavern, but check with the NPC you’re trying to befriend because they may only like some types.📷Levels of FriendshipFirst thing to note is friendliness starts at 0 with every character and goes up as you interact with them.One neat thing is unlike most things in this game and most RPGs is friendliness doesn’t scale as you increase your closeness with people, however, the increase you get from giving the gifts does diminish. The levels of friendliness are as follows: Familiar 250, Friendly 500, Close 750, and Faithful 1000. Friendliness increases as you interact with characters in the main story and side quests, however, if you want to make more friends you need to give them gifts. You can only gift a maximum of 10 items to each NPC per day for a total of 30 gifts per day. So if you’re getting an average of +3 friendliness per item for 10 items that’s +30 friendship per day. That translates to 8.3 days per 250 points.

So in a little over a month you should be able to be besties with anyone. Just pour another round.📷Main Quest and FriendsThere are three main characters who will become your friends just by playing the main story. Hatchet, Hendricks and Redeemed, and Edith. This is great because it gives you a full group and well rounded support for solo hunting. Edith, staff wielding, has range and damage to go along with any weapon type. She consistently does the most damage of my companions.

Hendricks, with firsts is fury, is decent melee damage, and for the ranged players is able to take the heat and tank to some extent. Hatchet is ok, throwing bombs and I think if he dies he’s able to self revive.GiftsThe best and easiest items I’ve found to gift are as follows: alcohol, food you cook, materials you farm/hunt and fish(ornamental and edible). As you gift cheap alcohol to a character their friendliness increases by +1. More expensive alcohol can net a +3 friendliness. Salad, for those who like it, will give you +4 friendliness.

Roses give +20. I’ve found a few items that have given me over +20 friendliness(ornamental fish to the king I think) but if I’m getting +4 or more per gift I’m really happy.Alcohol is relatively inexpensive and easily obtained with no daily or weekly limits.

And I don’t know about you but, although it fluctuates, I never seem to be short on silver.📷NPC Friend GroupsThere are Four groups of NPC friends. Hunting Companions, Rangers, Heart of the Kingdom, Other Characters.Hunting Companions are by far the most important to get to Familiar, 250 points. Once you get them to Familiar they will join you on battles. Each hunting companion starts at a different level. (Roughly the level you are when you enter the area where you meet them.

Which I thought was pretty cool). Also, this group will give you +6 damage in the weapon they wield. (ie Balen “Increases the main character’s Attack Power by (6,12,18,25)While wielding a Greatsword.)Rangers are your fellow NPC Rangers. Master Brokk, Harken, Icarus, Sophia, Cassandra, Douglass, and Hatchet. They give you good buffs surrounding their respective disciplines.Heart of the Kingdom Characters increase your faction reputation by 3% for the given leader of the faction. Marek, Wilhelm, King Philip, Eve, Helen, Dagen, Marcus.Other Characters are mostly bar tenders, and the other merchants you uses. Most of them just give you a discount at their respective store.

Leia, not only does staff runes, but gives you a chance at creating an extra alchemy item, and Bjorn gives you a chance at an extra material drop when hunting behemoths (he also does bow runes).Preferred Order for Gaining Friendship with NPCs(Thanks Gumbydpl!). All hunting companions (Get to 250 first). The 3 that lets you upgrade your Rune Skills (Max to 1000). Bjorn, Leif, and the 3 cooks (get to 250). Personal preference at this point.Leveling up your cooking skill is the key. Cook and fish as much as you can.Also it is up to each player, but generally I would advise against giving ornamental Fish as gifts unless you have over 10 of them. They are used to level up your Rune Skills.

You could always buy them from the market, but its your choice. For example as Bow user I needed 10 Bluegill to level up two of my Runes.RumorsYou can hear rumors from random passing NPCs and from Bards. Every taverns has a Bard strumming a lute. You can ask him about rumors for different characters. He will tell you what they like, for a small fee of 1000s. These seem to last in your rumor tab in the character section for the current day. Rumors reset at the start of the new day when all the other in game content refreshes.

Rumors include, for example, Balen likes Titan steel for his weapons and maybe wants some for his armor? But still feels like a waste. What a piece of shit.- Douglas: No need of less corruption.- Harken: Why rush the weapon mastery?.
