Ok there seems to be confusion here. I have the same raid frames on every character so I'm going to break it down. My horse prince last level.

Interface - Raid Frames. Disable borders. Class color frames. UNCHECK 'keep groups together'. Underneath that select 'sort by role'. Adjust height and width to desired settings.

Hit OK/Apply. Hit your raid frame options under your character frame (if in raid/group). Unlock raid frames. Adjust the height so only 5 frames fit vertically, move to desired location on screen. Also for dungeons I like to keep raid frames so you can check 'use raid style frames in party' (I'm on phone so exact names of options might be mistaken but you'll get what I mean). I have not used default frames in years, but have you tried to reshape the little frame thingy that pops up when you click to move the group/raid so that it forces the groups to sit side by side?

Like, try to only allow enough space horizontally for one group to fit, so the others go out to the right and not down and to the right, if that makes sense. Sorry if it doesn't, like I said I have been using addons for years now and don't know exactly if the move frame thingy still works the same.
